BAKU, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijan has ordered the evacuation of its embassy in Tehran and its general consulate in the northwestern city of Tabriz, citing safety concerns amid escalating regional tensions, said Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Friday.

Speaking at a news briefing, Bayramov said the evacuation order was issued as part of a broader package of additional security measures being implemented in the country, stressing that the safety of Azerbaijani citizens remained a "top priority."

The announcement came against the backdrop of a drone attack launched from Iranian territory toward Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which left four Azerbaijani citizens injured.

A day earlier, Iran's foreign minister, in phone talks with Bayramov, pledged to investigate the matter.

"Yesterday, during a phone conversation with the Iranian foreign minister, we seriously discussed this issue. The Iranian side promised to thoroughly investigate what happened, and we expect the results," Bayramov said.
